Ritten is a hiking paradise. Here not only countless marked paths are waiting to be explored, but also an abundance of pristine nature: forests, meadows, lakes, mountains. In short: everything you could wish for. Since the choice is huge and your time on holiday is limited, we have taken the liberty of putting together a few tips for you.

On the trail of a genius: the Freudpromenade walk from Klobenstein to Oberbozen

The fact that Ritten has made it into the elite list for holiday destinations is not only thanks to the unique landscape, but also to an outstanding guest: Sigmund Freud. The founder of psychoanalysis withdrew several times on holiday with his family to Ritten and stayed there in Klobenstein. Klobenstein is the starting point of one of the most beautiful walks in Ritten, the Freudpromenade, which leads from here to Oberbozen.

Start at Klobenstein, then follow trail mark 35 or the signs for “Freudpromenade” through woods and meadows up to the trainstation of Oberbozen. The way back is no problem. The best way to get back to the starting point is to take the Rittner narrow-gauge railway. The Freudpromenade is about 5.5 kilometres long, you can walk it comfortably in about 1.5 hours. And the good news for all non-athletes: the path is almost flat, there are only 60 metres of altitude to overcome.

An extraordinary church visit: from Lengstein to Antlas

A small church is dedicated to Saint Andrew, which is worth a visit for its location alone. And because of the wonderful hike that leads there from Lengstein. From church to church, so to speak. The starting point of the hike is the car park below the church of Lengstein. Its patron saint is Saint Ottilia, the church has a Gothic core from the 15th century. However, it was rebuilt and extended in the 19th century. From here the path leads us past the Hotel Kircher via the path marked “L” downhill to the first fork and from there – always following the “L” path – into the forest. Going downhill we reach Hotel Zuner after about half an hour, from there we continue – this time steeply uphill – to the St. Andreas Church of Antlas from the year 1592.

For the way back we take the path marked “A” from Zunerhof to reach Lengstein again. All in all we spend about 90 minutes on this hike. If this is not enough for you, you can take a detour to a third church. On the way back you have to follow the signs to the Verena church at the first fork after Hotel Zuner.
